North American B-25J Mitchell   6.25"   8.25"

The B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber named in honor of General Bill Mitchell, a United States Army general who is widely regarded as the father of the US Air Force. The B-25 is a two-engine propeller driven aircraft with an H-tail configuration and is considered to be a safe and reliable aircraft. It was used extensively during World War II by the Allies, especially on the Pacific Front.

"Briefing Time" has been recognized as one of only three flying B-25s in the world restored to this level of completeness and authenticity. Making this achievement unique is that all the work was done by the staff and volunteers of the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum at our their facility, rather than by a specialist contractor. Many of the original aircraft parts, which are no longer available, were fabricated in-house. The restoration is complete with the famous Norden bombsight, as well as a working bomb bay loaded with six rare, real 250-pound bombs. The bomber sports a complete set of original WWII radio equipment and even a rarely seen, full suit of armor plate, which along with the 1500 pounds of iron bombs on its racks makes "Briefing Time" the heaviest B-25 flying in the world today.

North American B-25J Mitchell

Originally designed as an attack bomber for export to France and the UK, the B-25 Mitchell was first flown on August 19, 1940. Rejected by the countries it was designed for in favor of the new Douglas DB-7, the B-25 later entered service with the Army Air Corps as a medium bomber. Early in its service career, the B-25 became famous for its role in the Doolittle Raid. Nearly 10,000 B-25s were built by North American Aviation, and the aircraft's service spanned four decades. Named for aviation pioneer Billy Mitchell, the B-25 is the only US military aircraft to bear the name of an individual person.
