The Albatros D.III was a single-seat scout fighter that entered service in early 1917. Equipped with two fixed 7.92 mm LMG 08/15 machine-guns and with a top speed of 109 mph, the D.III was a major asset for the Germans in World War I. Lieutenant Hermann Goring flew this Albatros D.III while in command of Jasta 27 (fighting unit). He assumed this prestigious post on May 21, 1917 after accumulating nearly two dozen kills and the Blue Max. Designed by Robert Thelen as a much advanced DII, the DIII was first flown in 1916. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
