VAQ-209 "Starwarriors" is a United States Naval Reserve electronic attack squadron that moved to Naval Air Facility Washington in 1990 and began transitioning to the EA-6B Prowler. VAQ-209 deployed several times over the next twenty years to Bosnia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and several other locations. In May 2013 the Starwarriors took their last flight in the EA-6B Prowler and began a move to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington to transition to the new EA-18G Growler. Grumman EA-6B 161883 was assigned to VAQ-209 as the CAG aircraft. Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats.
