Hobby Master 1:48 Air Power Series HA7401
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A Diecast Model
Luftwaffe JG 300, Walther Dahl, Jutebog, Germany, January 1945

1:48 Scale   Length   Width
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A   7.25"   8.5"

Major Walther Dahl initially flew with JG 3 but in June 1944 he was given command of JG 300. On September 13, 1944 Dahl is credited with bringing down a B-17 by ramming it and this earned him the nickname "Rammdahl". This became a normal tactic for units using special variants of the FW-190 that had been reinforced to do the job. Dahl had a falling out with Hermann Göring because he refused to have his pilots and himself fly in terrible weather conditions. The only reason he wasn't shot was the German ace Adolf Galland came into the room and agreed with Dahl. As a result Dahl was demoted to inspector of day fighters but continued to fly sorties whenever possible. By the end of WWII Dahl had accumulated 129 victories. The Fw-190A-8 was the most produced of all the sub-variants with over 1,300 being produced. This version of Major Dahl's Fw-190A-8 has the red band around the fuselage that was called Reichsverteidigung. This was a quick visual method of identifying friend or foe and shows the aircraft was used in the Defense of the Reich.

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A

Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw-190A was first flown on June 1st, 1939. This small, yet ferociously-powered aircraft was fast and maneuverable and packed a fierce armament package earning it the nickname "Butcher Bird". The wide landing gear, excellent visibility and high-altitude paddle-bladed propeller endeared it to pilots familiar with the shortcomings of its predecessor - the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Some of the Luftwaffe's most famous fighter aces flew the Fw 190. Many variants were produced during the war, with the most notable being the inline-engine equipped and longer-nosed 190D, known as the "Dora."

Hobby Master's 1:48 scale Fw 190 is a quality model, assembled with exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. Among this model's features are a solid metal wing with simulated fabric-stretched control surfaces, a 12-bladed cooling fan that spins in unison with the propeller, cylinder head cooling fins that are visible inside the cowling, individual exhaust stacks, removable center mounted fuel tank and a sliding canopy that reveals pad printed dials and gauges inside the cockpit. Variants in this series include the early 190A, the upgraded 190A with armor plating, and the 190F attack variant with larger canopy and removable center-mounted bombs.
