This MiG-25RBT was part of Saddam Hussein's air force and was flown to Iran during the 1991 Gulf War to evade destruction. Later acquired by the U.S., it was transported stateside for analysis. The MiG-25RBT, a reconnaissance-bomber variant, was capable of Mach 2.8 speeds and high-altitude operations, making it difficult to intercept. Now preserved at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, it serves as a rare example of one of the fastest military aircraft ever built and a relic of Cold War-era combat aviation. Designed as a high-speed, high-altitude interceptor to counter the threat posed by the US XB-70 Valkyrie bomber, the MiG-25 was first flown on September 9th, 1964. The airframe was designed around a pair of massive Tumansky R-15(B) turbojet engines, capable of propelling it to a top speed of around Mach 3. The Foxbat is one of the fastest production aircraft to enter service. In addition to the interceptor variants, numerous reconnaisance variants were also produced.
