On March 2021 the Royal Danish Air Force F-35A L-001/19-5530 c/n AP-01 fired its PW- F-135 engine for the first time. On March 8 the aircraft completed its maiden flight and was delivered to Luke Air Force base on April 7, 2021. Denmark ordered 27 F-35s with about 6 remaining at Luke Air Force base for training by the 308th FS "Emerald Knights". The first Danish pilot completed a solo flight on January 14, 2022. The new aircraft will be based at Skrydstrup AB with the first aircraft scheduled to arrive in 2023. Designed to meet the US Military's requirement for a multi-role Joint Strike Fighter, the F-35 was first flown on December 15, 2006. This single-seat fighter is one of the most advanced aircraft of our time, said to be four times more effective at air-to-air combat and eight times more effective at air-to-ground combat than any other existing aircraft. It uses a low-maintenance stealth technology, and some versions have an innovative Lift System, which gives the F-35 vertical take-off and landing capabilities. The US plans to buy a total of 2,443 F-35s at a cost of $323 billion, which makes the F-35 the most expensive defense program in history. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
