From November 1969, Australia deployed six PC-6 to reinforce its military presence in South Vietnam at its main base of operations in Nui Dat ("dirt hill"). Tasks were versatile, including transport, air space surveillance, reconnaissance, target marking for artillery to dropping of leaflets. Following the withdrawal of Australian troops from Vietnam from the end of 1971, the Porters continued to serve reliably in the Army until their retirement in 1992.
Designed as a single-engined STOL utility aircraft, the PC-6 was first flown on May 9th, 1959. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
