ATR 72-500, operated by Vietnam Air Services Company, or VASCO, as VN-B221. The twin-engine turboprop served regional and domestic routes within Vietnam, particularly sectors linking smaller communities and island destinations with larger cities. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127 engines, the ATR 72 offers economical fuel consumption, dependable short-field performance, and approximately 70 seats. VASCO, associated with Vietnam Airlines, has used ATR aircraft where larger Airbus jets would be uneconomical or unable to operate efficiently. Aircraft such as VN-B221 played an important role in extending scheduled air service to thinner regional markets across Vietnam.
