ATR 42, operated by Cubana de Aviacion as CU-T1240. The twin-engine turboprop was used on domestic and regional services, providing economical capacity for shorter routes within Cuba and the Caribbean. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engines, the ATR 42 combines low fuel consumption with good short-field performance, making it particularly useful for smaller Cuban airports. CU-T1240 helped connect Havana with provincial destinations and supported international services to nearby Caribbean points. The ATR family provided Cubana with a practical regional aircraft that complemented its larger Soviet, Russian, and Western-built jetliners on lower-demand routes.
