This title showcases the unique 318th FIS "Green Dragon" markings. It features an ALL NEW ASAT missile. In the 1980s, the Reagan administration encouraged the USAF to develop countermeasures against Soviet reconnaissance satellites. This could be achieved by launching an ASAT (Anti-SATellite) missile against orbiting satellites – the only snag was that the missile could only be launched at an altitude of 80,000 ft! The F-15 was selected for this task, and the plan called for twenty fighters from the 318th and 48th FIS (Fighter Interceptor Squadrons) to be fitted out for this mission. Three or four Eagles from each squadron were in fact rewired to carry the ASAT missiles, and 318th FIS was quasi-operational. However, after nearly ten years of development, Congress scrapped the ASAT program in 1988. Designed to meet US Air Force requirements for an air superiority fighter to replace the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 Eagle first flew on July 27, 1972. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas's design in 1969 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. Since entering service in 1976, it is among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat, with the majority of the kills by the Israeli Air Force. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc. Dragon's F-15 series covers the early single and two-seat air-superiority fighter variants and the long-range ground attack "Strike Eagle", with conformal fuel tanks mounted along the engine intakes. The canopy can be configured for display in the open position revealing a detailed cockpit interior. The speed brake is also configurable for displayed in the deployed position. The thin cambered wings and twin vertical fins all feature hand paint strobe lights. The "dog-toothed" elevators rotate, and intricate exhaust and heat weathering detail surround the simulated titanium exhaust nozzles. © Copyright 2003-2013 The Flying Mule, Inc.
