Aviation 200 AV2OV105
Diecast Model
NASA, OV-105 Endeavor, Space Shuttle w/Boeing 747

1:200 Scale   Length   Width
Rockwell Space Shuttle   7.25"   4.75"
Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft   14"   11.75"

This release includes a highly detailed OV-105 "Endeavor" Orbiter model paired with a NASA Boeing 747 transport plane. NASA used two modified 747s to transport the shuttle back to Cape Kennedy after it landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The process of connecting the shuttle to the 747 would take take from 6 - 10 hours to complete.

Please note: Unlike other models in the Aviation200 Series, the Space Shuttle model is made from a heavy cast resin with markings applied as decals and over-coated in a laquered finish. The 747 is diecast metal and pad-printed as normal.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Rockwell Space Shuttle

Designed as a re-usable spacecraft for orbital human spaceflight, the Space Shuttle first flew on April 12, 1981. This American spacecraft system has flown more than 130 times, undergoing a variety of missions from satellite launch to space science experiments and construction and repair of space stations. The system is comprised of an external tank, two solid rocket boosters and an orbiter vehicle, which carries the crew and payload. The shuttle stack launches vertically, and the orbiter returns to Earth horizontally at the end of each mission. The shuttle has more than 2.5 million parts, making it one of the most complex machines ever built.

Boeing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft

Designed to ferry the NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter from its landing site back to the launch facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) was first flown in 1976. Two SCAs were built by Boeing for NASA by extensively modifying an ex-American Airlines 747-100 and an ex-Japan Airlines 747-100SR. In addition to adding the orbiter mounting struts on top of the fuselage, the airframes were strengthened and stripped of passenger seating. Supplemental vertical stabilizers were also added to the tail to compensate for the blanking effect of the orbiter on the main vertical stabilizer during flight.

Aviation 200's 1:200 scale 747 is an exceptionally large and heavy model in this scale (over two pounds) and is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal. The extra wide-body fuselage, with its wonderfully sculpted nose section, features all around seamless construction with pad-printed windows and doors. The model is supported on an all metal fixed landing gear with soft rubber tires and a steerable nose wheel. The solid metal wings are constructed as a single unit, and then carefully fitted to the fuselage. They feature accurately replicated flap track fairings on the underside and metal engine nacelles with turbo-fan details inside.
