The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus is a modern aerial refueling and strategic transport aircraft developed for the U.S. Air Force. In February 2011, the tanker was selected by the United States Air Force (USAF) as the winner in the KC-X tanker competition to replace older Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers. Based on the Boeing 767 commercial airliner, the KC-46 features advanced refueling capabilities, including a boom and hose-and-drogue systems, allowing it to refuel a wide range of military aircraft in flight. It also has a cargo and passenger transport capability, enhancing its versatility. The first aircraft was delivered to the Air Force in January 2019. The Air Force intends to procure 179 Pegasus aircraft by 2027. Designed to meet the USAF requirement for a replacement for the KC-135, the KC-46 is a military in-flight refueling tanker version of the 767. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
