MWD was to provide the backbone of the British Army's transportation. It was used as a general cargo and personnel carrier, including wide usage in the North African Campaign as the standard transport for the motorised infantry in the armoured brigades. Its inclusion in our military series sees the latest version of the Bedford MWD in an unusual red-brown and olive drab camouflage scheme, as it served in Tunisia with the Grenadier Guards in December 1943. The canvas back is a slightly lighter olive green and the interior, chassis and the front bar all reflect the olive drab of the main bodywork. The bumpers are also in the red-brown tone of the body camouflage.
