An excellent addition to your armor collection! This 1/72 item is fully finished and includes a beach scene diorama, beach obstacles, six Ranger figures and even crew figures. Don't miss this great title! The Landing Craft, Mechanized (mark 3) was designed to land one medium (30 ton) tank, or motor vehicles directly on the beach. This vehicle was used extensively in WW2 and was critical in many operations. This is a 1:72 scale D-Day, June 6th 1944 beach-landing diorama, featuring an LCM(3) (also known as a "Higgins" boat) permanently fixed to the diorama base (figures and beach obstacles can be moved around at your discretion). Additional features include a movable bow ramp, simulated diamond plate top surface, and beautiful simulated weather effects. There are nine highly-detailed figures, including three crewmen (one to operate the boat and two to man the detachable .30 cal machine guns) and a team of six infantrymen. The six beach obstacles (aka "hedgehogs") complete the battle scene. Originally developed by the British in 1920, the flat-bottom (LCM) Mechanized Landing Craft was constructed of steel and powered by two diesel engines, twin screws and rudders, which could be controlled from the pilothouse. These 'walled barges' were the link between the beach and the large transport ships that sat offshore. The LCMs' huge bow ramps dropped upon landing to allow men and equipment to "hit the beach" in an amphibious assault. One of the most famous uses of the LCM was during the Normandy landings on D-Day, June 6th 1944. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc. Dragon's 1:72 scale LCM(3) is constructed almost entirely from plastic, which allows for fine details such as simulated welding seams and diamond-plate top surface. The inside of the hull is exceptionally accurate, with details that include maintenance hatches with rivets, separately-applied life preservers, cargo securing rings and textured decking. The movable bow ramp with diecast metal bow plate snaps securely into place when closed, and two movable 50 caliber machine guns are positioned next to pilot house with a hand-painted figure at the controls. Twin rudders and screws can be seen on the underside of this flat-bottomed boat. © Copyright 2003-2013 The Flying Mule, Inc. The Dragon Models "1:72 Dragon Armor Collector Series" range presents highly-detailed, ready-made plastic models of military vehicles. Dragon Armor tanks require no glueing or painting. Each model is an instant display piece or diorama centerpiece straight from the box and is 100% true to scale... these don't look like model tanks, they look like tanks!. Color, camouflage and unit markings are carefully researched for Maximum authenticity, marking the difference between and authentic scale model tank and a "toy" tank. Dragon Models "1:72 Dragon Armor Collector Series" display model vehicles feature: - Molded plastic construction (some releases include diecast metal components).
- Rotating turret, elevating cannon and accurate hull.
- Painted, fitted, non-moving tracks and detailed non-rotating wheels.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
