Tirpitz was the second Bismarck class battleship of the German Kriegsmarine, sister ship of Bismarck, named after Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz. She was the largest battleship ever built in Europe, with dimensions slightly exceeding those of her sister ship. Built at the onset of the Second World War, Germany's two Bismarck-class battleships were the fourth largest ever completed. Originally envisioned as fast raiders, refinements in armament and propulsion led to a reduction in range and cruising speed, making both ships inferior to those serving in the British fleet. The completed Bismarck ships had a displacement of nearly 42,000 tons, a top speed of 30 knots, and a main battery of eight 15-inch guns. Instead of engaging enemy battleships directly, Bismarck and her sister ship, Tirpitz, were assigned to convoy raiding missions, where they were better suited. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc. Forces of Valor's 1:700 scale Bismarck Class Battleship is constructed of diecast metal and plastic, with metal used for the lower portion of the hull and plastic for the upper portion. Simulated wood decking, conning tower and guns are recreated in plastic, providing the highest possible level of detail. The rotating forward and aft main turrets feature elevating 15-inch cannons and the six side mounted turrets can also rotate. The superstructure is packed with details such as movable cranes, hand painted life boats, delicate antennas and mast.
