Production of the Do 217E began in 1940. Its top speed was 515 km/h and the aircraft had a range of 2,300 km. However in 1942, when the Me 328 Mistel was mounted on top of the Do 217E, the speed dropped dramatically. The plan was for the planes to separate and perform their tasks individually. The Mistel was a fast jet, almost like a guided bomb, while the Dornier 217E was a carrier and a medium-range bomber. Please note: The manufacturer incorrectly identifies this model as being 1:72 scale on its display stand. The dimensions of the model iteself however are much closer to 1:93 scale. Designed as an enlarged Do17 fighter-bomber, the Do 217 was first flown in August 1938. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
