Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was the fifth human spaceflight of Project Apollo and the third human voyage to the Moon. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, while Collins orbited above. As impressive as the real Saturn rocket system is, viewers of this Space Collection item from Dragon will cause jaws to drop and draw gasps of astonishment! While the model makes use of the Command/Service Module (CSM) and Launch Escape System produced earlier, the rest of this monstrous 1/72 scale rocket comes from brand new toolings. All the relevant detail is carefully reproduced on the three rocket stages, and the completed model comes with accurate painting and markings. The Saturn V is most suitable for display at home as a centerpiece of any space fan's collection. It comes with a stable circular base to allow it to be freestanding on the floor. This is no miniature model, for it's absolutely enormous even in 1/72 scale! Indeed, the fully built-up model stands almost 5 feet tall. Impress and be impressed with this fantastic model! Please note: Due to its size, this model is packaged in a partially disassembled form. The engines for each stage need to be snapped into place before stacking the individual stages for display. All components are fully pre-painted and detailed, and can be assembled in just a few minutes with no glue required. Designed for the Apollo program at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, the Saturn V was first launched on November 9th, 1967. After two unmanned flight trials the Saturn V launched astronauts into lunar orbit in 1968, then in 1969 powered the first manned moon landing. The Saturn V's huge size and payload capacity dwarfed all other previously successful rockets. The Saturn V stood 363 feet tall and without fins was 33 feet in diameter with a payload capacity of 260,000 pounds.
