The German Kubelwagen was a favorite of German troops and officers. The all-terrain, 4-wheel drive design gave it great versatility in keeping up during the assaults of the Blitzkrieg. Minor changes and improvements occurred throughout WW2, but the basic Type 82 vehicle remained the same.
Designed by Ferdinand Porsche as a low-cost and light-weight utility vehicle, the Kubelwagen prototype was completed in 1938 and entered full scale production in February 1940. The chassis design was initially derived from the highly successful Beetle while the bodywork was kept deliberately light-weight and functional. In fact, the name "Kubelwagen" literally translates to "Bucket Seat Car". Unlike the US Jeep, the Kubelwagen was a two-wheel drive vehicle but its high ground clearence and low gearing yielded excellent off-road performance and enabled it to keep pace with marching soldiers. Forces of Valor's 1:32 scale Kubelwagen is an exceptionally detailed model, constructed almost entirely from diecast metal with beautifully rendered weathering effects. This model has many moving parts—a folding front windscreen, opening doors, steerable front wheels and an opening rear engine bonnet. The configurable rag-top provides a clear view of Kubelwagen's sparse, basic interior. Attachable/detachable battlefield equipment includes a spare tire, a shovel and fuel cans. Other details, such as separately-applied side mounted windows, skid plates and a finely detailed engine, give this model a quality finish.
