An American tank rapidly designed and built to enter WW2 service. Although it was typical of the world's tank designs when first introduced, it could not compete with German armor of the time. It was eventually withdrawn from frontline duty in favor of the M4 Sherman medium tank.
The M3 first saw action against Rommel's forces in North Africa, in 1942. It battled on every front, fighting for the armies of United States, United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, eventually replaced by the superior M4 Sherman tank series. The M3 had an unusual turret design with the main weapon -a 75Â mm gun- in an off center mounting in the hull. A small cupola on top held a machine gun, giving the effect of one turret on top of another. Unhappy with the tall profile, The British, had their own turret fitted-this one lower in profile with a bustle at the back for the radio set. Tanks manufactured with the new turret received the name Grant while the original M3s were called Lee. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Forces of Valor's 1:32 scale M3 Lee/Grant tank is beautifully detailed—the top portion of the hull and turret are made of diecast metal, which gives the riveted armor an authentic look and feel. The pivoting sponson-mounted machine gun is constructed in diecast metal and swings left and right. The 360 degree rotating turret includes an elevating diecast metal 37mm gun, a small opening commander's cupola and machine gun. Each release has rolling rubber tracks and wheels, beautifully applied weathering effects and a nicely detailed underside with maintenance access panels. Battlefield diorama accessories are included to provide a variety of display options.
