The Sherman Firefly was a World War II British variant of the American Sherman tank, fitted with the powerful British 17 pounder anti-tank gun as its main weapon. Originally conceived as a stopgap until future British tank designs came into service, the Sherman Firefly became the most common tank with the 17 pounder in World War II. It soon became highly valued as the only British tank capable of defeating the Panther and Tiger tanks it faced in Normandy at standard combat ranges.
The pilot model of the M4 was completed in September 1941, and the Sherman became the most widely produced tank of the war. The M4 Sherman defeated heavier tanks with superior numbers, and by using outflanking tactics to strike thinner enemy flank armor. Shermans also achieved success with progressively upgunned models and by working with tank destroyers. The Sherman tank--named by the British--was fast, maneuverable, mechanically reliable, easy to manufacture, and effective in its infantry support role. Forces of Valor's 1:32 scale M4 Sherman tank is beautifully detailed—the top portion of the hull and turret are made of diecast metal, which gives the welding beads joining the hull's armor an authentic look and feel. The 360 degree rotating turret has two opening hatches, an elevating diecast metal cannon and a moveable machine gun mounted on top. Each release features beautifully applied weathering effects, opening drive hatch, rolling rubber tracks and wheels, a full load of separately applied battlefield equipment and a variety of battlefield diorama accessories to provide a variety of display options.
