Boeing 747-100 N7470, known as "City of Everett," was the first 747 ever built and served as the program's primary prototype. Rolled out in 1968, it conducted the entire early flight-test program that proved the viability of the world's first widebody jumbo jet. N7470 performed structural, aerodynamic, and systems evaluations, helping certify the 747 for commercial service with Pan Am in 1970. After testing, it continued as a development platform for later 747 variants. Eventually retired, the aircraft was preserved and placed on display at Seattle's Museum of Flight, where it remains a landmark tribute to one of aviation's most influential airliners.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
