The Mi-24 helicopter, a Soviet-designed gunship, played a significant role in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Both Russian and Ukrainian forces deployed the Mi-24 for air support, troop transport, and attacking ground targets. Early in the conflict, it was used in major battles like the assault on Hostomel Airport near Kyiv, where it provided critical air support. Ukraine's fleet of Mi-24s countered Russian advances, targeting armored vehicles and troop positions. The helicopter's robust design and firepower made it a valuable asset in the intense combat that unfolded around Kyiv and other key areas during the invasion. Designed as an attack helicopter gunship, the Mi-24 was first flown on September 19th, 1969. The Mi-24 can carry eight soldiers in addition to its armament, offering versatility in various military operations.
