Boeing 737-800, serial number 39359, registered as VH-VZW, was delivered to Qantas in December 2011. The aircraft was named Beaconsfield and entered service on domestic routes across Australia, supporting Qantas's short- and medium-haul network. Originally fitted with standard winglets, VH-VZW was later upgraded with split-scimitar winglets for improved fuel efficiency. Throughout its service, it has operated primarily on high-frequency routes between major cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. In March 2024, VH-VZW was involved in a minor ground collision at Perth airport when another Qantas 737 clipped its winglet, but it returned to service shortly thereafter. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2025 The Flying Mule, Inc.
