He gained fame for his exceptional piloting skills and bravery, flying various aircraft including the Yakovlev Yak-1 and later the Lavochkin La-7. The La-7, renowned for its speed, maneuverability, and firepower, became Dolgushin's signature aircraft. He achieved numerous aerial victories with it, contributing significantly to the Soviet Union's air superiority on the Eastern Front. Dolgushin's legacy as a formidable ace was cemented by his skillful use of the La-7, a plane that represented the pinnacle of Soviet piston-engine fighter technology during the war.
