As the first wide-bodied passenger aircraft, the "Jumbo Jet" is among the world's most recognizable planes. The Boeing 747's maiden flight occurred on 9 February 1969, with more than 1,574 of the type eventually produced by 2023. That milestone flight was performed by a Boeing 747-100 christened City of Everett. The flight took place at Paine Field in Everett. A total of 167 of these early Boeing 747s were produced at a purpose-built facility in Everett, then the world's largest building.
