Tupolev Tu-154B, registered YR-TPE, flew for Tarom, the Romanian flag carrier, wearing the airline's 1993 livery featuring the carrier's traditional titles, as part of Tarom's substantial fleet of Soviet-designed trijets supporting the airline's European and Middle Eastern network. Tarom's long association with the Tu-154 reflected Romania's aviation ties to the Soviet Union during the Communist era, with the type continuing to serve the carrier for years after the 1989 revolution as Romania gradually transitioned its aviation infrastructure toward Western standards, eventually replacing its Tupolev fleet with Airbus and Boeing aircraft during the 1990s and 2000s.
Designed as an enlarged version of the Tu-134 to replace the Il-18 and Tu-104, the Tu-154 was first flown on October 4th, 1968. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
