Tupolev Tu-154M, registered B-2630, flew for Sichuan Airlines as part of the Chinese regional carrier's fleet of Soviet-designed trijets supporting domestic routes during the 1990s and early 2000s. China operated a substantial fleet of Tu-154s across multiple regional carriers during this period, including Sichuan Airlines, before safety concerns following several fatal accidents involving the type, including crashes operated by China Southwest Airlines and China Northwest Airlines, contributed to the phase-out of Tu-154s from Chinese civil aviation in favor of Western-built Boeing and Airbus aircraft as the country's airlines modernized their fleets.
Designed as an enlarged version of the Tu-134 to replace the Il-18 and Tu-104, the Tu-154 was first flown on October 4th, 1968. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
