Boeing C-32B, registered 99-6143, is one of the United States Air Force's most secretive aircraft, operated by the 227th Special Operations Flight in support of the Foreign Emergency Support Team, a rapid-response unit that deploys to respond to terrorist incidents and crises involving American citizens abroad. Based on the commercial 757-200 airframe but fitted with military systems and often shrouded in ambiguity regarding its exact manufacturer serial number, the aircraft has become a subject of extensive aviation enthusiast investigation and debate. Its unmarked appearance and unusual operational patterns reflect the aircraft's role supporting classified government missions.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
