Boeing 757-223(PCF), registered SX-AMJ, flew for Olympus Airways, a Greek charter carrier, as one of the airline's first two freighter aircraft after joining the fleet on a dry lease from New Zealand's Airwork in December 2019. Originally delivered to American Airlines in 1992 as a passenger jet configured with 188 seats, the aircraft spent over two decades in mainline US service before conversion to cargo configuration. Olympus withdrew SX-AMJ from service in September 2021 after less than two years, placing it in storage at Phoenix Goodyear Airport as the airline shifted its cargo strategy toward the Boeing 737-800.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
