Boeing 757-2Q8, formerly registered G-BUDX, flew for Ambassador Airways as part of the small UK charter carrier's fleet supporting leisure travel routes during the 1990s. Ambassador Airways operated alongside numerous other independent British charter operators during a period of significant competition and consolidation within the UK leisure aviation market. The aircraft later transitioned through additional operators including Caledonian Airways, reflecting the common pattern of secondhand 757s moving between European charter carriers as fleets were resized and companies merged or ceased operations amid the volatile economics of the package holiday airline business.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
