Boeing 757-2Y0, registered G-BKRM, flew for Air Europe wearing the carrier's distinctive "British Flag" livery, a design incorporating Union Jack elements that reflected the independent UK airline's identity during the 1980s. Air Europe operated a substantial fleet of 757s supporting charter and scheduled leisure routes from London Gatwick to European holiday destinations before the airline's 1991 collapse amid the broader financial pressures facing independent European carriers during that period. As part of Air Europe's core widebody-adjacent fleet, G-BKRM represented the ambitious growth strategy the airline pursued before external economic factors ultimately led to its demise.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
