Tupolev Tu-214, registered RA-64506, flies for Russia's State Transport Company (SLO), the special flying detachment responsible for transporting senior Russian government officials, including at times the President and other state dignitaries. The Tu-214 is an upgraded, higher-weight development of the Tu-204-100 with increased range for full-payload long-haul missions, roughly comparable to the Boeing 757 and Airbus A321 in size and role. Manufactured at the Kazan Aircraft Production Association, the Tu-214 has become the standard airframe for Russian government VIP transport, reflecting the country's preference for domestically produced aircraft in sensitive state functions.
