Tupolev Tu-204-120SE, registered B-2872, flew for Air China Cargo alongside sister aircraft B-2871 as part of the carrier's small experiment with Russian-built Tu-204 freighters during the mid-2000s. Powered by Western Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines for improved reliability and market compatibility, the Tu-204-120 variant was Tupolev's attempt to appeal to international operators outside the traditional Soviet-aligned customer base. Air China Cargo's brief operation of the type reflected the broader difficulty Russian manufacturers faced competing with Boeing and Airbus for major international cargo customers, even as some carriers experimented with the type for specific routes and contracts.
Designed as a twin-engined medium-range narrow-body airliner, the Tu-204 was first flown on January 2nd, 1989. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
