Comac ARJ21-700, registered B-605U, serial number 138, was delivered to Air China on June 27, 2020, becoming the flag carrier's first ARJ21 regional jet as part of a coordinated handover ceremony that also saw China Eastern and China Southern receive their own first examples of the type on the same day. Intended for eventual operation through Air China's Beijing Airlines subsidiary, the aircraft represented a milestone in the ARJ21's adoption by China's three major state-owned carriers, each of which holds orders for 35 examples of the Chinese-built regional jet as part of the country's push toward aviation self-sufficiency.
