Airbus A320-232, registered N643JB, serial number 2871, built in 2006, flies for JetBlue Airways wearing a special "Dunkin' Donuts" promotional livery celebrating the popular American coffee and doughnut chain, one of several corporate partnership liveries JetBlue has applied across its narrowbody fleet over the years. As part of JetBlue's substantial A320 fleet supporting the low-cost carrier's extensive East Coast-focused domestic and Caribbean network from hubs including New York JFK and Boston, the aircraft reflects JetBlue's long history of using distinctive branded and promotional liveries to generate marketing attention and passenger engagement across its fleet.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
