Airbus A320-271N, registered D-AINY and named "Lingen," flies for Lufthansa wearing the carrier's "Lovehansa" special livery, featuring a large rainbow-colored "Lovehansa" wordmark and a rainbow heart on the winglet, introduced to visibly demonstrate the airline's commitment to openness, tolerance, and diversity. As part of Lufthansa's growing A320neo fleet supporting the carrier's European short and medium-haul network, the aircraft has flown across Lufthansa's route map to destinations throughout Europe. The Lovehansa livery represents one of several visible diversity and inclusion initiatives the German flag carrier has undertaken across its fleet in recent years.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
