The M26 tractor, also known as the "Dragon Wagon," was a heavy armored recovery vehicle used by the U.S. Army in World War II. Designed by Pacific Car & Foundry, it was part of the M25 Tank Transporter system, working with the M15 trailer to tow and recover tanks, artillery, and heavy vehicles from battlefields. Powered by a gasoline engine and equipped with a winch, the M26 could pull up to 40 tons, making it essential for recovering damaged or disabled vehicles. Armored against small arms fire, it provided critical support on the front lines, helping to keep Allied armored divisions operational.

M26 6x6 40-Ton Dragon Wagon

Designed by the Knuckey Truck Company to meet a US Army requirement for a heavier, more stable means of transporting disabled tanks from the battlefield, the M26 "Dragon Wagon" first entered service in 1941. This 6x6 armored tractor was powered by a Type 440 240bhp 6-cylinder gasoline engine and had a fifth wheel capable of pulling a 40-ton trailer. Although Knuckey's design won ultimate approval from the Army, the company wasn't capable of producing the M26 in sufficient numbers, so the mass production contract was given to Pacific Car and Foundry. M26s served through WWII and post-war as heavy-haulage tractors fitted with diesel engines and civilian cabs.
