Boeing 727-100 operated by Mexicana as XA-MEP. The aircraft formed part of Mexicana's large Boeing 727 fleet during the period when the trijet became the backbone of the airline's domestic and regional operations. XA-MEP flew from Mexico City to destinations throughout Mexico as well as international points in the United States, Central America and the Caribbean. The 727's strong takeoff performance was particularly valuable at Mexico City's high-altitude airport. Mexicana became one of Latin America's most prominent 727 operators, ultimately operating both the original -100 and stretched -200. XA-MEP belonged to the earlier generation that established the type's long association with the Mexican flag carrier.
