Airbus A300B2-1C, operated by Lufthansa as D-AIBA. One of Lufthansa's earliest Airbus aircraft, D-AIBA joined the airline during the 1970s when the European-built A300 was still establishing itself as the world's first twin-engine widebody airliner. Lufthansa employed its early A300s heavily on high-density domestic German and European services, where their widebody capacity was particularly valuable on busy routes from Frankfurt. D-AIBA subsequently left Lufthansa as the airline moved toward improved A300B4 and later A300-600 variants. Its service represented an important period in Lufthansa history, when the carrier became one of the major early customers that helped establish Airbus as a serious competitor in the commercial aircraft market.
