Boeing 767-3Z9ER, serial number 29867, line number 731, operated for Lufthansa as D-ABUV. Built in 1998, the aircraft was originally delivered to Lauda Air as OE-LAY and named "Steve McQueen." After a period with Spanair as EC-HVG, it returned to Lauda before being transferred to Condor in 2003 and registered D-ABUV. Wearing full Star Alliance colors, it was operated for Lufthansa during 2003-2004, making it an unusual 767 in Lufthansa service. The aircraft returned to Lauda Air as OE-LAY in 2004 and subsequently joined Austrian Airlines, continuing a lengthy passenger career after its brief Lufthansa assignment.

Boeing 767-300ER

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. With more than 1000 aircraft produced, the 767 is the second most prolific wide-bodied airliner after the 747.
