Boeing 747SR-81 operated by All Nippon Airways as JA8146. Designed specifically for high-density Japanese domestic routes, the 747SR featured structural reinforcement for the exceptionally high number of takeoffs and landings required in short-haul service. JA8146 became particularly notable on June 21, 1995 while operating ANA Flight 857 from Tokyo Haneda to Hakodate. A lone hijacker seized the aircraft with 350 passengers and 15 crew aboard. Following an overnight standoff at Hakodate, Japanese police stormed the aircraft and arrested the hijacker; all 365 occupants survived, although two people were injured. JA8146 subsequently returned to ANA service.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
