Boeing 737-406, serial number 24529, line number 1770, operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as PH-BDS and named "Joris van Spilbergen." The aircraft spent its career flying KLM's extensive European network from Amsterdam Schiphol and carried fleet number DS-026. During the early 2000s it became particularly recognizable for carrying "The world is just a click away!" promotional titles. On August 15, 1993, PH-BDS was involved in a non-fatal incident at Dusseldorf Airport. The aircraft continued flying for many years afterward and remained active with KLM into 2009, forming part of the airline's 737 Classic fleet before newer Boeing 737NG aircraft replaced the type. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
