Boeing 737-306, serial number 23540, line number 1303, operated by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as PH-BDD and named "Anthony van Diemen." Built in October 1986, the CFM56-powered aircraft became one of KLM's early Boeing 737-300s and spent its career operating European services from Amsterdam Schiphol. PH-BDD carried fleet number DD-004 and was configured for approximately 127 passengers. It remained with KLM throughout its operational career as the airline gradually transitioned toward newer 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft. After approximately 24 years, PH-BDD was withdrawn and sent to Cotswold Airport in the United Kingdom, where the veteran 737 was broken up in November 2010. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world.
