Boeing 737-530, serial number 25358, line number 2151, operated by Lufthansa as D-ABJI and named "Siegburg." Built in October 1991, the aircraft was delivered new to Lufthansa on October 31 and powered by CFM International CFM56-3B1 engines. D-ABJI spent more than 20 years operating Lufthansa's German domestic and European short-haul network, becoming part of the airline's extensive 737 Classic fleet. It was withdrawn from flying service on December 23, 2011. Rather than being scrapped or sold, D-ABJI was retained at Frankfurt and transferred to Lufthansa Technical Training, where it has been preserved since December 2011 as a practical instructional airframe for technical personnel. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world.
