Boeing 767-38E, registered HL7528, serial number 29129, was delivered new to Asiana Airlines in September 1999 and became the last active non-extended-range Boeing 767-300 operating passenger service anywhere in the world. Configured with 290 all-economy seats, the aircraft operated exclusively on the Seoul Gimpo-Jeju route, the world's busiest airport pair, until its retirement on May 31, 2025, following a brief extension from its originally planned March retirement date. The aircraft's farewell marked the end of both Asiana's 35-year Boeing 767 operations and the worldwide disappearance of the non-ER 767-300 variant after 39 years in service.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
