Comac C919-100STD, registered B-657T, flies for China Eastern Airlines wearing a special "Shining Chinese Red" commemorative livery celebrating national pride in China's first domestically developed narrow-body jet airliner. China Eastern became the C919's launch customer, taking delivery of the first production aircraft in December 2022 and beginning commercial passenger service in May 2023. As the C919's largest operator, China Eastern has played a central role in the aircraft's introduction to service, with the type designed to compete directly with the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families in the global narrowbody market.
