Boeing 767-222, serial number 21868, entered service with United Airlines as N607UA in September 1982. One of the earliest production Boeing 767s, the aircraft was named "City of Denver" and initially operated domestic services before being converted to 767-222ER configuration in 1991. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines, N607UA subsequently served longer international routes, including transatlantic services. It remained with United until 2008, after which it passed through several Asian operators as HS-SSC, HS-BIA, and finally HS-JAB. The aircraft was withdrawn from service in 2015.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
