Airbus A330-202(P2F), registered VH-EBE, flies for Qantas Freight as part of the carrier's growing fleet of converted A330 freighters supporting Australian domestic and regional cargo operations. Operated on behalf of Qantas Freight by subsidiary Express Freighters Australia, the aircraft represents the airline's strategy of converting retired passenger-configured A330-200s into dedicated freighters rather than replacing them entirely with new-build cargo aircraft. As part of this expanding P2F fleet, VH-EBE supports Qantas Freight's network connecting major Australian cities and international destinations with essential air cargo capacity for parcels, freight, and e-commerce shipments.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
