Airbus A330-202(P2F), registered VH-EBF, was the first Qantas A330-200 ever converted from passenger to freighter configuration, undergoing the conversion at EFW's Dresden facility before returning to service with Qantas Freight. Wearing Australia Post branding, the aircraft supports parcel and freight operations across Australia's domestic network, operated on behalf of Qantas Freight by subsidiary Express Freighters Australia. As one of the earliest examples of Qantas's growing P2F conversion program, VH-EBF represented an important step in the airline's strategy of repurposing retired passenger widebodies for dedicated cargo use rather than relying solely on purpose-built freighters.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
