Boeing 747-4Q8, registered G-VHOT and named "Tubular Belle" after Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells album connected to Virgin's music origins, flew for Virgin Atlantic as part of the carrier's fleet of thirteen 747-400s. In May 2003, G-VHOT operated Virgin Atlantic's historic relief flight into Iraq, delivering 60 tonnes of urgently needed medical supplies during the post-invasion humanitarian crisis. Virgin Atlantic operated 30 Boeing 747s across 36 years of transatlantic operations before retiring the type entirely by 2020, with several airframes, including sister aircraft "Cosmic Girl," finding second lives as satellite-launch motherships and cargo troop carriers.
